If you are preparing to go the Hobart for a business meeting, then plan to squeeze in some sightseeing. Being a tourist as a business tripper in Tasmania is easy since many attractions are in the city or only a 20 minute drive. You can also explore a lot on the way to or from the airport.

Know When Places Are Open

The first thing to be aware of when you visit Tasmania is that not everything is always open. Australia is very different to the rest of the world when it comes to hours of operation.

I was planning on visiting the Museum of Old and New Art (MONA) on Tuesday, but it isn’t open on Tuesdays. Luckily the receptionist where I was staying was extremely helpful and I’m a chatty person. Otherwise I would have gotten in my hire car, driven out to MONA and not been able to get in the door. Embrace the Welcoming Hobart Spirit

The people of Tasmania are extremely kind and considerate. They will take time out of their day to help others. If you need help, ask a local and they will help you with a smile. If you’re super lucky you will absorb some of their Zen like state and slow down a little bit. It is this amazing community spirit and welcoming nature that makes me want to go back to Tasmania.

I can highly recommend the Maritime Museum Tasmania which is in town. It opens earlier than the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery across the road. I didn’t make it there this time, as I was happily and slowly taking in all the information at the Maritime Museum.

Find Out Where the Locals Go

Luckily one of my colleagues suggested I have breakfast at Daci & Daci Bakers. It did not disappoint. The coffee and food was absolutely delicious. My favourite thing was sitting amongst locals who were regulars and meeting up with friends to discuss meaningful matters. Yes, my ears may have been wide open.

Salamanca Place Hobart

If you haven’t heard of Salamanca Place yet than you probably haven’t done any research on Tassie since it is the place to be. My colleague who also happens to be a Dietitian suggested we go to dinner at Maldini Italian Restaurant. The food, wine and hospitality were impeccable, and very reasonably priced.

Since our business meeting was held on Saturday we didn’t make it to the famous Salamanca Markets, but walking around this buzzing harbour front and admiring the architecture is a must.

Wonder at the Natural Beauty

Naturally, no trip to Tasmania is complete without going to Kunanyi (Mount Wellington). If you listen, Mother Nature will speak to you when you’re there. Surprisingly, even after packing in so many sight seeing adventures around a business trip I didn’t feel exhausted.

Tasmania’s fresh, crisp air and welcoming community was the retreat I didn’t even know I needed until I’d had it.
