Are you looking for free holiday fun? Then we’ve found the place for you. Lara, Olivia and I visited Circada Glen Nursery when it had only just opened. Sadly it has taken me this long to share this post. This was a great free experience where kids of the northern beaches can engage in nature and learn a few things close to home. I say ‘free’ but on our first visit we came home with native parsley which is thriving in our vegetable garden. Watching native herbs grow in my garden brings me so much joy.
Michael is one of the owners of the nursery, he is super welcoming and has an abundance of knowledge about local native plants. He showed us around the place, and introduced us to bush foods. Naturally I was brave enough to pick, smell and taste new things. Not all people would feel comfortable eating plants like this, but if you go there with an open mind you will enjoy the full experience.
There is bush tucker, fruit trees and wildlife to see everywhere you look, and I have it on good authority that a cafe is in the works.
As soon as we walked in we spotted large lizards, and lots of bird life. The girls and I also followed butterflies around like they were tour guides. What I loved, was the little signs around the place that taught us about the local wildlife, so this was a device free adventure.
This isn’t just a nursery with plants for sale, it is a wildlife sanctuary with massive old trees, a pond and an eco-system that is thriving.
Naturally, if the weather isn’t great for getting outdoors during holidays, craft and painting is always a good idea. For years now we’ve created our own gift wrapping paper, click here to see that post from years ago.
