Today’s Daily Writing Prompt is “What are your family’s top 3 favourite meals?”
This is triggering. We are a family of four and we can’t agree on a single meal, yet alone a family favourite.
How do families have 3 favourite meals.???
Meals that I like
I have a preference for eating fruit and vegetables. I enjoy fish and will occasionally like a chicken dish. For me to even be enticed to eat red meat these days it has to be sustainably farmed and well cooked. Even then my preference is for a small portion of meat surrounded by vegetables.
Meals my husband likes
My husband is my polar office when it comes to food. He will happily eat a steak and only a steak for dinner.
What My First Born Eats
My eldest daughter went through a long phase of not eating much. Thankfully she will now eat what the adults are eating again. That said, she will protest that she hates spaghetti bolognaise which translates to it isn’t her favourite.
What My Youngest Eats
We have to joke that our now nine year old is on a brown diet. She has been for a few years now. This child used to pick broccoli from the vegetable garden and eat it raw. Now she only eats meat, bread, rice, plain pasta and crisps. I don’t know how she isn’t sick all the time. Maybe it has something to do with how often I buy tuna sushi for her to eat something that is a bit healthy.
Even our dog has learned how to protest at meal time. If he doesn’t like what I’m giving he he will look at it, look at me with disappointment and walk away. His kibble needs something special with it or he isn’t going to eat it. This is seriously different to our 16 years with Baxter the Labrador who ate everything.
For a couple who used to revolve our lives around food I question how we got here. These days my favourite thing to do is a picky platter. Then everyone can chose what they want to eat.
