Until recently I’ve been proudly living a sustainable lifestyle by growing fruit, vegetables and a biodiverse garden, and managing our food waste at home. Then things changed.
The Beaches Farm Girl had an unexpected move. Just as we were preparing to renovate our family home, we found a home that ticked most of our boxes. My gardening box was nowhere near ticked, but something needed to be compromised. I told myself that having a new backyard space to create isn’t all bad.
We moved house on Monday 23rd October, and by Monday 6th November I could feel myself getting edgy. I needed to get my hands in some soil and get some gardening therapy.
We weren’t picking anything out of the garden to eat, and it saddened me that I didn’t even have parsley to throw at the chickens. There was a very strong need to do something to stop me pining for my amazing old sanctuary, which probably has the first limes ready to pick by now.
Garden Therapy
I took myself off for some therapy at an independent nursery called Newleaf Nursery in Ingleside. My intention was to buy some herbs and see how they would survive without irrigation. I honestly thought that I would probably forget about the plants and they would all die whilst I was buried in the house unpacking boxes.
Then, the universe called me over to a stand of pots and showed me the solution that I needed; Water Ups planter boxes. It took less than an hour to buy the pot, soil and herbs, drive home and complete my gardening project. The best part has been that after watering it in I haven’t had to water the pot once, and it is sitting in full sun on a westerly aspect.
OK, so maybe the best part is that I can see herbs from my kitchen window now which means we are cooking better. Plus I’m slowly starting to feel like I’m building up my farm again.
Unfortunately the store I bought the Water Ups planter box from didn’t have wheels for me to purchase at the same time. I have seen on the Water Ups website that you can buy coordinated bases with wheels. So, that might be the next project whilst I get to know our new garden and new sun aspect.
If you’re new here and wondering why I’m missing my vegetable garden so much you can get an insight here.
