Up until recently I’ve wrestled with feelings of guilt whenver I had a lazy day and got that rested glow.
Luckily I’m learning to take a new perspective on this, thanks to the following observations and realisations:
- If I don’t take a lazy day every so often I burn out for weeks or even months.
- Forcing my puppy to take naps requires me to have quiet time with him. I’m starting to think everyone should be more like our pets and nap through the day. Then maybe we can be as happy and loving as they are.
- Bread only rises once its rested. Rushed bread turns out chewy and isn’t worth eating.
- Soil that is overworked doesn’t produce great food or flowers.
- Mother nature has created seasons to encourage resting so we can thrive. Honestly, I love getting in tune with my inner bear during winter.
Full Moon Rest Days
Over the last few years I’ve noticed that I get really tired on full moon days. There’s a reason for this; we are meant to rest. Women’s bodies are even more in tune with the cycles of the moon. That big thing in the sky which tries to tell us to slow down and take stock. Some of us need to slow down during the full moon, and for others it’s the new moon. It doesn’t matter when it is. The important thing is to make it a regular part of our routine. We should avoid waiting until we’ve burned out.
Lazy Days
What’s your favourite thing to do on a lazy day?
I have two versions of a lazy day (I’m a Libra). The first is somewhat active where I stroll through Mother Nature. I regularly stop to talk to trees, flowers, insects and lizards, and take photos. These are even better when I’m with friends.
My other version of lazy is laying in the sun on lizard mode with a book. If I’m feeling really cheeky, I will set myself up with a bottle of water and snacks. This way, I don’t have to get up until I need to pee. I keep a list of books I’ve read and love, as well as books I want to read here.
Sometimes my lazy day is simply giving myself the grace that a picky platter makes an acceptable dinner.
My favourite lazy morning is reading and sipping tea in bed until I smell breakfast cooking, which lures me downstairs. I’m always in a good mood on days when I wake up slowly like this.
It’s too easy to get caught up with societies speed of life and the ideal that being busy equals success. As I get older, I’ve come to believe that the opposite of busy signals success. Having time to simply be in the world. To garden, to stop and talk to people and mother nature without thinking about the to-do list.
