Restaurant Suki has opened on Barrenjoey Road, Mona Vale to end this year with a delicious bang. It’s lucky that we don’t live too close or I would move in, I love it that much. The food is so delicious and the staff are happy and welcoming. It’s the basic ingredients to a great restaurant that many venues don’t master like Suki has in the first week of opening.
Suki Chef’s Selection Menu
We opted for the Chefs Selection menu for $89 per person. It started with chilli coated edamame beans that paired perfectly with spicy margaritas. Beginning the meal tactically eating with our hands was a great start. I love eating with my hands to really connect with my food.
The second course of kingfish ceviche salad with crispy green apple and mango was a light, refreshing dish that perfectly followed the spicy edamame beans. It tasted as delicious as it looks.
The prawn toast with spicy kewpie sauce was perfectly crunchy. Proofing that the Chefs Selection menu is a well thought out adventure for the taste buds and senses. Dishes move from light and refreshing to crunchy deep fried and back again.
You couldn’t have an Asian meal without prawn dumplings and I may have heard someone say “these are the best prawn dumplings I’ve ever had”. The balance of bun, meat and sauce was perfect.
When the share plate of coconut and lemongrass crab arrived at the table it didn’t look like a big enough portion for the three of us. However, it was a bit like “why French women don’t get fat”. When food tastes that good it feels more filling as you completely engage with the whole experience. I may have taken the last piece.
The crispy pork belly was rich, just the right amount of fat and meat and melted in my mouth. A simple sprinkling of jasmine and sesame seeds on top of the rice was yet another example of the chef’s attention to detail.
I believe the papaya and watermelon salad with green papaya, cherry tomatoes and peanut dried shrimp was thoroughly enjoyable.
Dessert
Our waiter professionally delivered the news that there was an alternative dessert. This was well received since my friends and I have had dishes swapped out and tried to pass as what’s on the menu at other restaurants so we appreciated the transparency.
Dessert was a creme brulee which we’ve had plenty of times so it wasn’t as exciting as the pannacotta we were expecting, or the strawberry donuts, but it was enjoyable.
Drinks at Suki
The drinks menu at Suki includes wine, beer and classic cocktails. The best part is that the spicy margaritas are actually spicy and are great value during happy hour. We also enjoyed a bottle of Cinsault Rouquet’s which was a delicious dry rose that paired perfectly with every course.
Restaurant Suki is located across the road from The Mona if you want to keep the celebrations going.
